SLAR is a small, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) rescue based in Southern Illinois. Our mission is to save, rehabilitate, and rehome lost, abandoned, and neglected dogs, cats, and other animals — and to help families bring their missing pets home safely.
We’ve built one of the most comprehensive volunteer-based recovery programs in the region, using the tools and experience we’ve developed through years of animal rescue work.
🐕🐈🦝 OUR EQUIPMENT AND CAPABILITIES INCLUDE:
• Live traps from kitten-size up to a 70-inch trap that can safely contain a 150 lb Great Dane.
• Multiple trail cameras, including live-feed units that stream directly to our phones.
• A thermal drone that detects heat signatures and can scan several miles for lost or injured animals.
Recovery Options:
🐾 Family Assist — You and your family are hands-on in the trapping process. We’ll guide and support you with instruction, drone searches, and remote monitoring.
• Suggested minimum donation: $100
• You cover bait and supply costs ($10–$15 per day)
🕊️ Full Retrieval — We handle everything: baiting, trapping, drone searches, trail cameras, signage, and daily field monitoring.
• Suggested minimum donation: $200
• You cover bait and supply costs ($10–$15 per day)
Our work is careful, humane, and research-based. We can assist with owned pets who are missing, as well as stray or abandoned animals — but for strays, we require a placement plan ahead of time (with our rescue or another partner).
Because our team is small and volunteer-based, we may not be able to take every case. Please fill out the information below so we can assess your situation and see if we can help.
